The Access Fee increases from $25/teacher to $30/teacher if paid after July 31, 2023.

NOTE: A generous grant from the First Financial Foundation and First Financial Bank will cover the access fee for our early childhood & preschool program providers for the 2022-2023 school year. You will be able to register without being prompted for the fee.

Hall Pass Applications

APPLY NOW for need-based sponsorship of your Teacher Access Fee. We are grateful for this opportunity to award “Teacher Hall Passes” made possible by generous donors! A Teacher Hall Pass covers the Access Fee for the 2023-24 school year (10 shopping trips in-store or online). Hall Pass Applications are open to K-12 Educators at schools that are eligible for Crayons to Computers.

Since 1997, Crayons has worked hard to level the playing field in the classroom by providing students in need the tools to succeed in school, but over the last five to seven years we have experienced a seismic shift in the financial support we previously received from a corporate partner. That has forced us to examine alternative sources of funding—so that we can continue to partner with teachers to do the important work of equipping our young people.

Beginning with the 2021-22 school year, Crayons implemented a shopper access fee to augment the community philanthropic support we already receive for area classrooms. It is not our intent that our teacher shoppers pay this fee out of pocket. We hope that districts, schools, PTA/PTOs or local businesses will cover the cost.

A few key facts:

  • Starting with the 2021-22 school year, Crayons will charge an access fee per shopper each school year.

  • $25 access fee if paid by July 31 OR if paying in a group of 5+ teachers.

  • Access fee of $30 if paying individually after the July 31 earlybird deadline.

Think about what $25 would purchase in school supplies at a retail store. One could buy maybe a single “set” of core/basic school supplies*—not a cart full of them (as seen below). But a minimal $25 fee to the Crayons program provides sustainable income for our organization and allows you, once again, fill up a shopping cart at Crayons 10 times each year!

During a pre-COVID-19 school year, we know that the average teacher’s store shopping visit generates $524 worth** of value and that the average teacher shops with us 2.4 times each school year. That alone represents leveraging the $25 access fee at 49 times its value. And, if 10 shopping visits were made, the value would be more than 200 times the amount of the fee.

We understand this is a big change in a year of many changes and hope you know we are here to support you.
